Green Remodeling

The "green movement" which encourages us to think of environmentally conscious ways we can go about our everyday lives has taken hold in a new way in the last decade. The motto of "think globally, live locally" is a beautiful way for us to implement green living principles because in truth we can only really make a difference in the daily decisions we make each day. So when the time comes to put together a remodeling project, if you can integrate green principles even in how you go about planning to renovate your home, you can do your part to save the planet.

At a procurement level, we all can look for ways to buy green technology materials or materials that were made with recycled materials. This is especially important if you are rebuilding walls because if you can use recycled materials rather than freshly produced lumber or wallboard, that cuts down on the amount of manufacturing work that has to be done to make building materials from scratch.

It also reduces how much the lumber industry has to kill trees to provide for our building needs which reduces our carbon footprint just one more step. And step by step is how we win this battle to save our environment.

If you are thinking about way to make your home environmentally friendly during the planning phase for your remodel, that is an excellent point in time to begin to integrate new technologies into your daily life. The simple step of putting solar panels in the roof while you are having your roof redone gives you the ability to go solar. In doing so you reduce the amount of energy you have to pull from power companies who are producing that energy by burning fossil fuels or gas. On top of that benefit, by producing your own energy, you save money because you become more self-sufficient.

In fact, many homes that produce solar energy make so much electricity that it is more than is needed for one home so they sell that energy back to the power company. Yes, going green can even make you money.

When you have your walls or ceiling tore up during a remodeling project, this is a perfect time to put in extra insulation as well.

This one step can reduce the use of energy to heat or cool your home noticeably. Your utilities bills will fall which is money in your pocket. But more than that, your lower utility bill means you are using less energy to take care of your home, which means you are doing a good job of going green. By being on the look out for the many ways you can use green technology in the design of your home renovation, you can make a huge leap into the future by starting to live green locally to benefit the earth globally.

You will need to find a good beginning design job that you can do without any delays or having your client feeling unsatisfied with your style of interior designs.

This may be the most difficult part in your entire career, keeping your first client happy without running over the allotted time and the budget you have.

It may not be very easy since up until this point you have probably not gotten used to dealing with clients as such, only your friends and your relatives.

Putting your interior design degree to good use you should, if at all possible, build up a good clientele and a good reputation amongst your clientele for being on time and on budget.

You should also aspire to giving them satisfaction because a happy client is a prosperous client and they will customarily recommend you to their friends as well. And that's one area that your interior design career may just take off in a blast

Your interior design degree provides you with the credibility of an education, your hard work has given you the credibility of your work ethics and now you can work on building credibility in flare and unique design.

Being known as the interior designer that stays on schedule and on budget is great. Better is being known as the interior designer that not only stays on schedule and budget but also is known for their spectacular and innovative designs.

So keep your interior design degree refined, your people skills in top running condition, that creative flare honed, and hold on for the ride of your life

Beautifull A Solar House

High praise, indeed, from a member of the solar house team that took 3rd place in the 2005 Solar Decathlon. We won't mention the name of the well-known school, but it's fabeled location is "Far Above Cayuga's Waters". Regardless, we think you'll agree that soon-to-be Missouri S&T's stunning interior design would impress any stylish interior decorator, even this writer's lovely wife.

UMR's Solar House Team has long held that the Solar Decathlon is more than just about building a solar powered house, but more about designing and building an amazing energy-efficient house that also just HAPPENS to get all it power from the sun. And especially an efficient, solar-powered house that people would actually want to LIVE in. Don't believe us? How about UMR's Solar Village, where our '02 and '05 house now serve as very popular student residences. Still don't believe us? Why not visit the houses for yourself. We'd love to give you a tour.
Anyway, the previous Solar Decathlons had a very strong architectural perspective, and considering that most entries were designed more by architecture students than engineers UMR more than held its own, so much so that UMR's 05 house was featured in Popular Mechanics magazine a few months later, and honored by the D-I-Y Cable channel as well. And we expect similar kudos for our really cool 07 house when the dust (er, judging) settles. Not bad for engineers, eh?
